Open May 10 - October 19Sunday, MAY 11, Mother’s Day Tour Created in 1886 as a model agricultural estate, this non-profit 1,400-acre working farm on the shores of Lake Champlain in Shelburne is a National Historic Landmark. Landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted designed the layout of the farm, field and forest; architect Robert H. Robertson designed the buildings.Today 400 acres of woodlands, ranging from stands of northern hardwood to softwood plantations of pine and spruce, demonstrate "green forestry" and environmental stewardship. The property includes 8 miles of walking trails, a children’s farmyard and a grass-based dairy that supports a herd of 125 purebred, registered Brown Swiss cows.
