Leonard J Buck Garden
Far Hills, NJ

Sculpted from a glacial stream, the 33-acre Leonard J. Buck Garden is one of the premier rock gardens in the eastern U.S. Leonard J. Buck, a geologist who bought the original land in the 1930's, along with landscape architect Zenon Schreiber, developed a naturalistic garden which incorporated large rock outcroppings found on the property. Each outcropping is slightly different, creating varying exposures and microclimates which enable different plant associations to thrive. After Mr. Buck's death, the garden was donated by Mrs. Buck to the Somerset County Park Commission in 1976.The site features a series of alpine and woodland garden areas, as well as a variety of heaths and heathers planted next to the parking area.HOURS: 10 am-4 pm Monday – Friday, 10 am-5 pm Saturdays, 12 pm-5 pm SundaysClosed on weekends and major holidays
