During the Garden Conservancy’s 2010 Open Days Program, more than 360 private gardens in 21 states offer the chance to explore first-hand examples of outstanding design and horticulture. Open Days begins May 22 in CA, CO, DC, CT, NJ, PA, WA, and NY and ends Oct. 30 in Westchester County, NY. Proceeds from the Open Days Program support the national preservation work of the Garden Conservancy. Exceptional gardens often begin as private gardens, the life work of passionate, dedicated, and talented gardeners. A select number of these are capable of flourishing for generations as public gardens, and it is the Conservancy's role to facilitate their historic and aesthetic preservation as well as public visitation. The Conservancy's Preservation Projects program takes a leadership role in the transition of these American gardens in its diverse portfolio from private to non-profit ownership and management. The best way to find out about gardens participating in your area is through the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Directory or by visiting the Garden Convervancy Web site.
