Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

Brookgreen Gardens

Sculpture and horticulture blend at this National Historic Landmark, located between Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island. Encompassing more than 9,000 acres of the South Carolina Lowcountry, it includes the Hungton Sculpture Garden (America’s first public sculpture garden), the Center for American Sculpture and the Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve. The Live Oak Allee garden is comprised of 250 year old live oaks trees. Other features include the Children’s Garden, the Kitchen Garden, the Carolina Terrace with perennials, roses, shrubs and mature trees, and the Cultural Garden, a display of vegetable and herbs grown during the plantation period. The Arboretum features sculptures that are interpreted horticulturally, with a unique pallet of plants used in the proximity of the sculpture. [ info ]
