Winter is especially dramatic at the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park, located between Oyster Bay and Locust Valley on Long Island's North Shore. A former Gold Coast estate, the spectacular grounds were landscaped by the renowned Olmsted Brothers. The over 409 acres includes greenhouses, lawns, formal gardens, woodland paths, and plant collections. Now’s the time to visit the Camellia House, where over 300 camellias reach their peak blooms during late February.
