Located on the former estate of the Grain Belt Brewery founder Frederick Noerenberg and his family, the gardens include a grove of Scotch Pines and Norway Spruce, planted by the Noerenbergs as a reminder of the Black Forest in their native Germany.Besides paper birch, Ohio buckeye, sugar maple, American elm, common hackberry, and native oak species, the garden’s Daylily (Hemerocallis) Collection includes approximately 1,000 different cultivars. The Azalea Collection is comprised of Northern Lights azaleas, developed for bud-hardiness down to –35 degrees Fahrenheit.
