The Gardens at Middleton Place, America’s oldest landscaped gardens, were begun in 1741 by Henry Middleton, president of the first Continental Congress. The symmetry and balance prevalent throughout the 65 acres of terraces, allees, ornamental ponds and garden rooms reflect the grand classic style popular in England in the early part of the 18th century.
