Leila Post Montgomery, widow of cereal magnate C.W. Post, donated 72 acres to the City in 1922 for an arboretum. The arboretum and gardens now contain more than 3,000 trees, shrubs, perennial and annual plantings. There’s also a Children’s Garden with a Cupola Science Plaza where visitors discover the scientific and historical connections we have with plants. Visitors walk through the “peanut butter and jelly sandwich” at the end of the Science Maze and look through a root view box ( part of the peanut butter sandwich half) that offers a glimpse into the underground world of peanuts. Other areas include the Pizza Garden, Storybook Gardens, Butterfly Garden., and Rain and Shine Garden.
